Container Shortage Fuels Mass Disruption

Container Shortage Fuels Mass Disruption

The Wall Street Journal published an article last week explaining the shipping container shortage and the resulting mass disruption to global supply chains. Although production of containers is at a record high, supply is struggling still to keep up with the explosive demands resulting from the pandemic. The authors conclude:
« There does not appear to be much that regulators can do in the near term to make more containers available, however, and industry executives and experts say the strains on supply chains are likely to last through the end of the year, providing little hope of relief for shippers ».
Additionally, over the last week, freight rates continued to rise, the Los Angeles, Long Beach port congestion worsened, and the outbreaks in Vietnam and China have worsened supply chain conditions.
