INCREASES IN THE PRICES OF MARITIME TRANSPORT

From December 1st, 2019, the IMO (International Maritime Organization) regulations it will take effect, limiting the emission of Sulphur oxides into the atmosphere produced by ships around the world, forcing them to use fuel with less than 0.5% Sulphur.

This measure will generate major changes in the logistics and transport sector. From adapting the vessels, disinfecting the tanks to be able to use fuel with less Sulphur content (VLSFO) until the operation with the refurbished equipment.

It is expected that all this will mean an increase in shipping costs that will be passed on to shippers through ocean freight rates hikes or new surcharges starting November and December 2019. We are however in negotiations with ocean carriers to minimize this impact.

We suggest you plan ahead considering this new regulations and in case you have any question do not hesitate contact El Clarín.
