12 Jan CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROJECT 2024: FIGHTING NATURE DEFICIT DISORDER (NDD)
Thirty years ago, children grew up in direct contact with nature: playing in the street, going out with friends, fighting among the orchards, building tree houses outside were common activities.
Over time, nevertheless, environments have become more urbanized and activities have moved further and further away from physical and emotional contact with the natural environment. Children’s socialising and meeting spaces have moved from the outdoors to enclosed rooms with mobile phone, tablet, video game console and computer screens.
Researches confirm that the more technology, the more nature is needed.
Lack of contact with nature leads to NTD. Nature Deficit Syndrome attacks physical and mental health, creativity, sociability and empathy in humans.
This syndrome is directly related to obesity, diabetes, vision problems, hyperactivity, attention and anxiety disorders. In terms of development, it is associated with a reduction in creative and problem-solving abilities; while in the social sphere it influences the ability to socialise, the increase in violent reactions and the loss of empathic capacity (with people and with nature).
That is why, from our company, we want to support and finance the projects carried out by Aktiveko, an entity dedicated to the conservation of the Sierra Espuña Natural Park, and to promote environmental education, leisure and contact with nature through outdoor activities with children and teenagers.
WE NEED MORE NATURE THAN EVER.
